I had the incredible opportunity to design and paint a permanent mural for the Multicultural Center at Adelphi University — a project that holds deep personal meaning for me as both an alumna and an artist. From the very beginning, I wanted the mural to authentically reflect the diversity, connection, and everyday vibrancy I experienced as a student on campus.

Rather than creating generic figures, I used real students from my class as inspiration. I observed how we naturally gathered outside between classes — sitting on the quad, talking, laughing, studying together. Those genuine moments of connection became the heart of the composition. I aimed to capture what it truly feels like to be a student at Adelphi: the sense of belonging, cultural exchange, and shared growth.

Leading this project was one of the most meaningful experiences of my academic career. As the designer and project leader, I was responsible for developing the concept, organizing the composition, guiding the painting process, and coordinating my classmates’ contributions. Each student was given their own panel to paint, allowing them to leave a personal mark on the final piece. Watching my peers bring sections of the mural to life was incredibly rewarding — it transformed the project into a collaborative celebration of community.

Being trusted with a permanent installation in a space dedicated to inclusion and multicultural dialogue meant everything to me. Knowing that my artwork will live on at Adelphi — a place that shaped who I am as both an artist and an educator — is something I will carry with pride forever. This mural is not just paint on a wall; it is a reflection of identity, leadership, collaboration, and the lasting impact of shared creative work.
